Best Comedy in LA Sunday 6/1

Merrill Markoe is one of the true originals in comedy writing. If you are talking comedy in LA you are talking Merrill. Though she makes very few appearances her tone, her voice helped define an entire generation or maybe three of comedy writers.

The briefing: She is an Emmy winning writer, famous for co-creating Late Night with David Letterman. Without Merrill, no Stupid Pet Tricks. She is a keen observer of human, as well as canine behavior, and her TV shows, books, articles all combine her compassionate take on life with her acute sense of the ironic and absurd. Merrill started off as a visual artist and she continues to be a visionary.

You might recognize her from her appearances on Letterman, TV Nation, Friends and have probably read her writing in NY Times, Rolling Stone, LA Times and Vanity Fair etc.  I asked Merrill “what makes you, you?” on UnCabaret’s podcast UnCabaret UnStaged and the episode is Something Extremely Important.

Along with Merrill we are thrilled to welcome Erin Foley (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Conan), Kira Soltanovich (Tonight Show, Girls Behaving Badly), James Davis (Chelsea Lately, Funny or Die), Mak Grgic (Cinema Verisimo, Croatian Chamber Philharmonic) and Deborah Pardes (Love and Discipline, Strange Tattoo, To Have Sex).
