5/18! Stories, Magic, Music and More at LA Comedy Club

LA Magazine recently named UnCabaret one of the top LA Comedy Clubs, and this Sunday is one of the reasons why….

We’re very excited to have Will & Grace creator and Emmy & Golden Globe winner Max Mutchnick back! He’s been quite busy with that big shot TV producing, big deal family making and in general menschy being. yay!

Laura Kightlinger lights up my life. She also lights up the screen. She was star and creator of IFC’s critically acclaimed The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman. Along with several stand-up specials she has appeared in HBO’s Lucky Louie and has written for Roseanne, Will & Grace and 2 Broke Girls. Laura’s book Quick Shots of False Hope was described in the NYT book review as “memorable, disturbing and darkly comic” and is being adapted for film.

A very special performer — funny, smart-filled and loaded with deeply personal and socially conscious songs — Jill Sobule is infamous for her hit single I Kissed A Girl and famous for a body of work that keeps growing more and more lovely.  Her new CD, Dottie’s Charms, is out on iTunes now. Take a listen and then come hear her shine on Sunday. Jill is truly a joy to watch perform. “Jill Sobule can claim her place among the stellar NY singer-songwriters…topical, funny and more than a little poignant…grown-up music for an adolescent age.” (Jon Pareles, NYT)

It’s always a sweet treat when Justin Willman visits. He takes the ‘first time out’ dictum at UnCabaret seriously and always comes with fresh modern magic just for us. The Guardian dubbed him a “Variety voltron with a comic flair that marks him out as leader of the pack.” You’ve probably seen him on Chelsea Lately, Ellen, The Tonight Show or as a host on Cupcake Wars. Time Out says, “he has to be seen to be disbelieved.”

We love appearing on Frank DeCaro‘s Sirius XM show and love when he appears on UnCab. You probably recognize him from his Out at the Movies on The Daily Show, his Oscar previews on Comedy Central, or from his columns in the NYT, Martha Stewart Living and Newsweek, or for his cameo in Bear City 2! He’s always so much fun!

Yes, Jonny McGovern is the Gay Pimp on LOGO’S Big Gay Sketch Show! He is also a Glammy Award winner and a very delightful storytelling human!

Last time Mitch and I were on Frank DeCaro’s show he and Doria Biddle could not stop talking about how they had just seen their new fave singer-songwriter, Heather Reid, formerly of  The Murmerswow crowd after crowd. Here she is singing a new song on their show.  Do not miss her live on Sunday!

You might remember Jenny Davis as our intern with the pink Evan Picone jacket and side ponytail. After having an actual job/gig/thingee, she swears she is still our intern. #growingup. We will see.  She makes us laugh.

Do join us.. it won’t be the same without you!
